Sharks and Rays have been around for 400 Million years. Their life history traits which include late maturity and low numbers of young make them susceptible to fishing pressures. 74 species of sharks are threatened. 107 species of rays are threatened.Up to 73 Million Sharks are killed every year. That means 8,333 Sharks are killed every hour.
The UAE has already taken action to protect sawfishes and whale sharks and is currently developing new policies to regulate the fishing and trade of shark.
