Ministry of Environment and Water and the Netherlands vow stronger mutual cooperation in efforts to drive in sustainable development

His Excellency Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water recently welcomed a visiting delegation from the Netherlands headed by H.E. Jennes De Mol, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UAE, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Dubai. During their visit, both parties expressed their keenness towards enhancing and reinforcing mutual cooperation to help drive in more sustainable development for the UAE and the Netherlands. The Ministry of Environment and Water officials also present during the meeting were H.E. Engineer Saif Al Shara, Assistant Undersecretary for Agricultural Affairs; H.E. Abdul Rahim Al Hammadi, Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services; Engineer Mohammed Moussa, Director for Agricultural Research Management and Engineer Yousef Al-Ahmad Al Raisi, Acting Director of the Government Communication Department.

 Bin Fahad shared that the UAE is looking forward towards working closely with the Netherlands across the efforts to support and develop key segments like Agricultural, sustainable development, waste management areas and the adoption of modernized water usage techniques. In addition, the two parties have agreed on a steady exchange of information and knowledge in adopting modern agricultural techniques, which will drive in an increase in agricultural production and also help in efforts to preserve natural resources.

 The Minister of Environment and Water added that the Ministry is committed to playing a key role in the UAE’s efforts to develop a sustainable environment and become one of the world’s leading countries by 2021. In line with this, the Ministry has embarked on an initiative to develop strategic partnerships and enhanced cooperation with various countries around the world—thereby consolidating the UAE’s move to achieve more sustainable development via investing in the country’s natural resources to further develop new sources to address future needs.

 Both parties delivered presentations during the meeting, highlighting their future plans and programs aimed towards sustainable development. Each country agreed on the importance of strengthening mutual cooperation—like the exchange of information, promotion of agricultural production, use of modern agricultural techniques and machinery and adoption of solutions to address water scarcity—to help achieve their set objectives and goals.

 In response, Ambassador De Mol reaffirmed his country’s commitment to work in close cooperation with the UAE. He also lauded the strong bilateral relations between the Netherlands and the UAE—further citing the UAE’s success in implementing key programs and initiatives to help achieve more sustainable development. He added that the Netherlands is upbeat on the partnership of the two countries particularly across research and technical segments. At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador De Mol presented Minister Bin Fahad with a token gift and extended an invitation to visit the Netherlands and see the country’s agricultural practices and techniques.
