In line with its continuing commitment towards strengthening the cooperation across both agricultural and livestock segments, the Ministry of Environment and Water has recently signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. The aim of the MoU is to enhance more cooperation across various topics of common interest for the two countries, particularly the trade and importation of animal livestock and agricultural products—allowing for both countries to enter into new markets while also inviting diversification of imported products.
According to His Excellency Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, the Ministry is currently exploring ways to enhance food security via the entry into newer markets that are both quality effective and offers enhanced bio-security rates. Under the terms of the MoU, both sides have affirmed their support and cooperation towards key efforts like the smooth exchange of information, best practices and knowledge, especially across important agricultural concerns, which include the potential agricultural production of salinity, addressing drought and the discovery and maintenance of selected varieties and species.
The MoU also pays special emphasis on the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of animal livestock, which is expected to cover primary concerns like animal production and the importation of live animals as well.
The Ministry has revealed that as a result of the recently signed MoU, the importation of live animals into the UAE from the Eastern Republic of Uruguay will commence immediately, thereby assisting in enhancing consumer choice while also demonstrating support for the diversity of the country’s live animal importation activities.
The MoU signing was attended by senior government officials from both countries and was witnessed by several representatives from private companies coming from the UAE and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay.
