On the occasion of UAE’s second annual Innovation Week, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) is launching 11 environmental initiatives and contests for the employees and public from November 20 to 26, 2016.
The Ministry has formed an “Air Quality Innovation Platform” which is an innovation lab for those who involved in the air quality field to discuss how to improve the air quality. The second phase of study on the air quality monitoring by satellite in collaboration with the Masdar Institute will also be launched along with the Platform.
“Our Happy Environment Encyclopaedia” initiative is aimed at using 5D technology innovatively to enable individuals to enhance the green behaviours in the areas of water, energy, waste, air quality, climate change, sustainability and ecological footprint.
“Innovative 3Rs station” initiative is aimed to raise awareness and change the behaviour of individuals in the field of integrated waste management (reduce, reuse, recycle (.
“Schools Hackathon” will be organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to recognise the owners of ideas from students who developed innovative projects to tackle environmental challenges.
“Environmental Innovation Marathon” is a contest for the sectors within the Ministry of Climate change & Environment to come up with an innovative solution for the existing challenges using innovation tools.
“Falak Tayeb” initiative is aimed at honouring clients who suggested creative and innovative ideas in the field of the development of services and service channels in different areas.
A visit will be organized to the Integrated Seawater Energy and Agriculture System (ISEAS), a complete seawater agricultural system that will serve as a research and development facility for Masdar Institute (MI) of Science and Technology and the Sustainable Bioenergy Research Consortium (SBRC) - established to advance sustainable business practices by developing technology with the promise of producing a clean, alternative fuel supply.
“Eye on landfills” initiative is aimed at monitoring the treatment and rehabilitation of landfills with the help of drone camera.
The “Environmental Innovation Eye” is a contest to all members of the society. The participants can send a short video clip that shows their innovative eco-friendly practices and promotes eco-tourism in the UAE, protecting natural resources, and conserving energy. It should be shared through a hashtag in the Ministry’s Instagram account.
“Innovators in Air Quality” is a contest to motivate university students to create areas of cooperation in the innovation and the teamwork to achieve the national agenda indicators to raise air quality index to reach 90% by 2021.
“Agricultural Innovative Armour” is a contest to promote agricultural innovation projects using modern agricultural techniques and an effective and intelligent marketing methods. The customers and public can participate.
