Ministry of Environment and Water boosts efforts to strengthen UAE aquaculture via strategic partnership with Editec

The Ministry of Environment and Water recently formed a strategic partnership with Editec Editorial Group, the organizer of the biennial international aquaculture exhibition AquaSur in Chile, to organize the “AquaME” Exhibition and Forum next year in conjunction with the annual Agra Middle East (AGRAme), the region’s largest agribusiness trade event. Taking place from March 16 to 18, 2015 at the Dubai Exhibition and Convention Centre, the concurrent events aim to help promote investment in the aquaculture industry in the UAE while ensuring food security in the country.

H.E. Abdelrahim Al Hammadi, the Ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary of Support Services, and Cristian Solis, Editec’s General Manager, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 23, 2014 to formalize their collaboration. Under the terms of the agreement, they will work hand-in-hand to establish ‘AquaME’ a dedicated exhibition area within AGRAme, to enable local, regional and international suppliers from the aquaculture industry to showcase their products and services. The ‘AquaME Forum,’ on the other hand, will be staged to complement the objectives of ‘AquaME’ by bringing in experts from around the globe to address local and regional investment prospects, opportunities and challenges. .

‘AquaME’ and ‘AquaME Forum,’ will also be able to provide aquaculture experts a platform to share valuable information and best practices on the latest research and technological advances and innovations.  The two initiatives are part of our objectives to further the knowledge and understanding required to establish a local aquaculture industry as a priority development sector. Furthermore, the partnership is a move to consolidate and encourage cooperation between various stakeholders to improve the aquaculture sector, which falls in line with the UAE’s strategic objectives to promote food security and environmental sustainability contributing to the UAE’s Vision 2021.

Informa Middle East Limited will undertake the launch and organization of the AquaME Exhibition Forum in conjunction with AgraME. Holding these events simultaneously is expected to draw a large audience as well as local, regional and international suppliers to review the latest products and services in these industries.

The co-organizer, Editec Editorial Group, has been managing events for 36 years. Its series of conferences and forums include AquaSur International Conference, an aquaculture meeting that takes place every two years. Moreover, aquaculture in Chile is a multi-billion dollar industry and one of the largest economic activity for the nation.

It is worth mentioning that MoEW has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nor-Fishing Foundation who are not only responsible for organizing the Norwegian international fisheries exhibition “Nor-Fishing” – regarded as the leading international fisheries trade show – but also the leading international aquaculture show “Aqua Nor” in Norway.
