Fossil Rock

Overview

Fossil Rock, a limestone outcrop found between two other prominent geological features – Jebel Mleiha and Camel Rock – is a popular place for outdoor activities. A natural formation amongst the sand dunes in the desert of Sharjah, it offers evidence that the area was once a sea bed around 70 million years ago. Today it is a frequently visited desert site for hiking and dune driving in 4x4 vehicles, as well as searching for fossils amongst an abundance of ancient marine remnants that can be discovered on its slopes.
