AThe CITES Convention includes about 6610 animal species and more than 34,310 plant species distributed in three appendices, classified according to the threat level:
• Appendix I: Includes all endangered species affected or likely to be affected by trade, where trade is only allowed in exceptional circumstances, and from breeding centers accredited by the CITES secretariat.
• Appendix II: Includes all species that are not necessarily threatened with extinction currently, but may become so unless trade in their specimen is strictly regulated to avoid exploitation detrimental to their survival.
• Appendix III: Includes all species identified by any party to the convention and needs the cooperation of other parties to control trade therein.
